Topic: HTC Touch issue when entering contact name for SMSPosted: 09 Oct 2007 at 7:21pm |

Hi,
Great product! I really like the program, but I discovered that when I'm trying to enter a contact name in the TO: line when creating an SMS message, it doesn't allow me to see most of the contacts that display at the top. It basically cuts off the possible matches as you type. I can only see a hand full of the possible matches.
Thanks,
GP

Thanks for using TouchPal! Do you mean you that since the keyboard has covered a big area, you cannot see enough possible matches? Which phone model are you using and what's the resolution (i.e., 320*240)?
First of all, we recommend you use the Precise input mode when inputting names for contact: swipe up on BACKSPACE button could switch between Precise and Prediction mode.
Second, after you have typed the beginning several letters, you can hide the keyboard and look at the top matching list.
Please see if it resolves your issue. Thanks.

Hello
Liking it, but I don't get a list at all (on T-Mobile MDA Compact Plus). I.E. when entering a name on the TO: line, I do not get a possible contact list at all. I am using precise mode, and the list isn't hiding under the keyboard! I do get the list if I type using regular keyboard or letter recogniser etc. (but not Transciber). |

Hello,
first congratulations for this fantastic software. I tried a lot of virtual keyboards without find the good one. But yours is absolutely wonderful. I think that now hardware keyboards are not necessary. So, back to the problem. I have the same, possible email addresses are not expand when typing the first letters. Thanks. Thanks for your feedback!
First, let me make sure we are talking about the same "Precise input mode". In "Prediction mode" you can also slide left or right on a button to select a letter accurately. But it will still appear word prediction. In "Precise input mode", the word suggestion won't appear, and each letter will be entered into the text area as soon as they are typed.
To ensure you are in precise input mode, go to option tab and make sure it's checked. Or you can slide up on the BACKSPACE button.
If you have tried above steps, and it still cannot resolve your problem, please let us know your phone model and we will try to repro it once we get the chance. Thanks.

Hello. This SIP is one of the best that I try but I also have problem with contacts name in create message to field on my Qtek 9100. I'm only use precise input mode for everything. Only few times it's show me names. In most cases it's don't work. Also in precise input mode suggest words when entering text don't work like with other software keyboard's. And one more thing, when I use delete word (backspace-left) in microsoft word, it's delete word and write a square on deleted word place. I hope that all of this minor problems will be removed in new version.
Best regards

Sorry for the late reply! We were a little bit tied up with the development these days and thus were slow in response.
For the first question. we have similar reports. It seems only repro on some models of devices. We will try to investigate into it.
For the seconde question, that's a good feature suggestion and we will take into account.
The third one is a small bug, and we are going to fix it in next release.

this worked on version 1 where i'd type a name and a list would come out.. its a huge problem that it doesn't work on a version that actually cost me money.. Now i have to go thru multiple menu's to send a SMS
edit: actually i can't even send an sms unless i know the person's number. This program also doesn't work with PocketCM, when you type in a word it just types in random gibberish. So now... its 50x hard to type up a SMS cause i have to remember their number. Its been a few months since the problem first was mentioned, is there a fix yet? I just downloaded and paid for it today, i'm heavily tempted to revert back to version 1 Edited by clayfu - 15 Jan 2008 at 4:06pm |

We are fixing this bug. Not an easy task when it comes to compatibility issues. But it's a P1 bug for us.
For now, please first try the workaround and let us know if it works. Thanks!

There are currently three workarounds for this bug: 1. Type a backspace first, then type the name2. Type an enter first, then type the name
3. Type the name, and then use Menu->Check Names
We understand it's really annoying bug and we are really sorry for the trouble. Now the problem is that we couldn't repro it on our HTC Touch. We will try to find some Touch phone and fix it. Edited by CooTek - 24 Jan 2008 at 9:47am |

Dear Coo Tek crew,
Workaround 1 and 2 doesn't work. Workaround 3 works but its messy, extra steps and a hassle. |

Could you please try the updated workaround in the post? Type the enter/backspace before you input anything. Will it work?

You may already know this, but for my device (HTC TyTn II) the workaround is to go into precise mode, then enter at least 4 letters, then hit backspace. Voila, the contact choices pop up! Not ideal, but only one extra keystroke.

HTC Touch
Just installed the new upgrade today. The names were resolving before by themselves in the previous verions, but with the new upgrade they do not resolve.
Anyone else notice this.

FYI. We have a fix ready for this issue. But since we cannot repro it on our phones, we are looking for volunteers who would like to beta test the fix. If you're interested, please drop us a line to feedback@cootek.com. We hope to have >=2 beta testers on the fix before releasing the fix. Thanks in advance! |

The version emailed to me made no difference. Do we need to fully remove all files and then re-install. I also had start up problems. I ended up having to restart a few times. Is there another build?

We have updated the bits on our website to fix this bug (see http://www.cootek.com/blog/post/TouchPal-V2-Update-(release-203).aspx). But we also received reports from some Sprint Touch users that the fix doesn't work for them (neither the workaround).
If you adopt the new bits, please let us know the result on your device. Kindly send an email to feedback@cootek.com with your device model and result. Thanks! Edited by CooTek - 15 Feb 2008 at 9:47am |

Yes, but we are going to buy a Sprint Touch before we can fix the problem. Hopefully in Apr.

Using a HTC Touch Cruise, I am able to get my full list of possible contacts when using TouchPal by disabling the XT9 on the Cruise:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409 Ime File=\windows\compime.dll Layout Text=COMP IME |

JNGold, thanks so much for your clue!
For those Sprint Touch users, could anyone try this approach and let us know if it helps? Thanks!

Well, that "kind of" works, so it's a start. If I do that setting and then type the name and backspace it shows the list up above, but it shoved at the top of the screen and some of the options are hidden underneath the bar with the start menu. Either way, that made some progress. *EDIT* I noticed that when typing in the body with this reg edit, another menu comes up with word selections. It doesn't seem to slow anything down, but it's there for almost no reason. I'll probably just go back to the way it was and doing the "check name" work around.
